Do I need good fitness levels ?

Whilst cycling holidays aren’t designed to be strenuous or make you feel like you have climbed Mt. Ventoux, they are still active and require you to be at set places by the end of the day. Most of the holidays require up to 30 miles of cycling per day and you have all day to reach your next stop.

The important thing is to decide whether you are suitably fit to do the tour. You can gauge this by the distances on each tour page. If you are a confident cyclist then doing 60km per day should be fine though we still recommend you train to build your basic fitness levels up.

We also strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance and if possible ‘sports cover’.

Going on a cycling holiday is one of the best holiday experiences you can ask for and you will be surprised at the distances you can do with little effort. Have a look at our below checklist to see whether a cycling holiday is right for you…

  • Decide where you would like to go on a cycle tour. We have cycling holidays for all abilities, so there is bound to be one to suit you in different locations across Europe.
  • Consider whether the cycle tour is right for you. Cycling holidays vary in distance and difficulty. The holidays have been selected for their suitability for leisure cycling. Some tours are more challenging such as Berlin to Copenhagen or Tallinn to Riga whilst others are easier and sometimes include e-bike options.

Remember you have all day to get to the next night stop and sticking to the supplied route notes will help you throughout your cycle tour. A cycling holiday is not a race even on group holidays. There are no medals for getting there early! We want you to take your time, stop off en-route and find out more about your chosen region.
  • If you know where you would like to go and which cycling holiday you wish to book. Fill out a provisional booking form and we shall get back to you with any questions you may have.
  • Train! Even if you haven’t rode a bike for a long time or you are always out pedaling, having something to focus on is a great motivator. Why not visit your local gym or get out riding in your local area with family and friends?

By the time you are ready to go, you should be able to cycle for at least 2 hours per day for a week to ensure you get the most out of your holiday.

Don’t forget about travel insurance, cycling confidence and a cycling helmet too!
