Cycle Tour Highlights
• Follow the classic cycle path around the lake
• Enjoy three countries in one tour – Austria, Germany and Switzerland
• Admire the wonderful countryside around the lake
• One of the most popular cycle paths in Europe

Cycle Route Profile
On this tour, you circle the entire lake and also go on an extra trip to the Rhine Falls in Schaffhausen. Based in Constance for three nights, you have the opportunity to fully explore this town – the biggest on the lake. On the 2nd day you encounter a short incline; on the 7th day the route is slightly hilly but otherwise the route is flat, mostly on separate, paved cycle paths, close to the side of the lake. The path sometimes follows brief sections that are unpaved and around Friedrichshafen the cycle path is alongside the main road. The banks of the lake are widely accessible to the public. Suitable for families.

Day-by-Day Cycling Holiday Itinerary

Day 1: Individual arrival in Constance

Take the opportunity to visit the island of Mainau, wander through Constance’s old town or visit the aquariums in the Sea Life Center and go to the Archaeological Museum.

Day 2: Constance – Überlingen, approx. 50 km

First, you cycle along the “Gnadensee” to the former Imperial town of Radolfzell, now a spa resort. From here, you cross the “Bodanrück” range of hills and encounter a very short incline. Arriving at the so-called Überlinger See, part of Lake Constance, you are rewarded for your efforts with beautiful views of the lake. In the evening enjoy a stroll along Überlingen’s
pretty promenade.

Day 3: Überlingen – Kressbronn / Nonnenhorn, approx. 50 km (cat B) Überlingen – Lindau, approx. 60 km (cat A)

From Überlingen you cycle through vineyards to Friedrichshafen. On the way you will pass the Baroque pilgrimage church of Birnau. In Meersburg, take a break to wander around the old town and its castle. In Friedrichshafen we can recommend a visit to the Zeppelin museum. You continue on through extensive orchards to today’s destination of Kressbronn.

Day 4: Kressbronn – Höchst / Rorschach, approx. 40 / 50 km (cat B) Lindau – Arbon, approx. 50 km (cat A)

On your way today, you soon reach Bregenz, the capital of the Vorarlberg region of Austria and famous for its annual festival on the largest lake-stage in the world. You finally reach Höchst where you soon cross the border again and then, after pedaling onwards for a few kilometres, reach Rorschach or Arbon.

Day 5: Höchst – Constance, approx. 60 km (cat B) Arbon – Constance, approx. 35 km (cat A)

Today your tour takes you through Romanshorn which is home to Switzerland’s largest harbour on Lake Constance. Now you continue on along the banks of Lake Constance back to Constance. Wander through the old town or enjoy an ice cream down at the harbour.

Day 6: Constance – Schaffhausen, approx. 50 km

Following the side of Lake Constance, you pedal to Stein am Rhein with its frescoed, medieval houses. Switching several times between Germany and Switzerland you reach the canton’s capital, Schaffhausen. The town, whose citizens competed with each other in building gables on their houses, is overlooked by Munot fort.

Day 7: Schaffhausen – Rhine Falls – Constance / Kreuzlingen, approx. 55 km + boat trip

After breakfast, cycle the short distance to the Rhine Falls, one of Europe’s biggest water falls. Cycling up the Rhine you go back to Stein am Rhein and then follow the Höri semi-peninsula. At Gaienhofen you go aboard the ferry which takes you to the island of Reichenau. From there it’s only a few kilometres back to Constance.

Day 8: Individual departure or extension of stay

After breakfast, you start your individual return journey home or extend your stay.
