The approximate difficulty level for this tour
Day 1: Arrival in Innsbruck
Welcome briefing and bike fitting. For the rest of the day, we recommend visiting Innsbruck’s famous old town with its city tower and its “Golden Roof”.
Day 2: Innsbruck – Brixen approx. 50 km + transfer Brennerpass
After breakfast drive to the Brenner Pass (train or minibus). From the small border town of Brenner along the newly built cycle path, usually along the river Eisack, first to the small village of Gossensass and then immediately to the once mighty Fugger town of Vipiteno.
Continue to Thumberg and the beautiful Reifenstein Castle until you reach Stilfes and Mittewald Franzensfeste with its famous fortress. The bike path continues to the beautiful and quiet Lake Vahrn, to Vahrn and finally to the episcopal city of Bressanone, today’s stage destination.
Day 3: Brixen – Bolzano approx. 40 km
You will cycle through the town of Klausen, along the river Eisack to Waidbruck (view of the castle Trostburg). Here, the valley narrows and leads you to the Bolzano basin. The city of two cultures is waiting for you (archeological museum with Ötzi, the Iceman) – access into the museum with Brixen card on that day included.
Day 4: Bolzano –Auer approx. 30 km
Through numerous beautiful orchards and vineyards near the South Tyrolian wine route, you’re passing various castles and ruins while cycling to the Lake Kalterer See and to the charming winetown, Auer.
Day 5: Auer – Trento approx. 45 km
You will ride your bike from Auer on the Adige river dam bike path. At the Salurner Klause, the German speaking South Tyrol ends. The route will lead you through famous wine regions of Trentino to the old Episcopal city of Trento (old town, cathedral, castle Buonconsiglio).
Day 6: Trento – Lake Garda South approx. 50 km + boat trip
First, you will continue to cycle along the Adige, to Rovereto from here the tour leads westwards towards Lake Garda. In Mori you will taste the world famous pistachio ice-cream in the Gelateria Bologna. After a short ascent, you will descend down to the lake to Torbole and on to Riva. From here, a boat trip will take you down the entire length of the lake to Sirmione or Desenzano.
Day 7: Lake Garda South – Verona approx. 50 km
Partly flat and partly hilly, the route will take you through the vineyards on to Verona, a town full of sights (the Festival Arena, Juliet’s house, the old town walls).
