Day-by-Day Cycling Holiday Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Silves

Upon your arrival in the Algarve, we will collect you and get you equipped with your bicycle for the tour. Then we will transport you and your bicycles to Silves, an enchanting town on the banks of the Rio Arade.

Steeped with history, Silves was once the Moorish capital and is home to the best preserved castle in the Algarve.

Day 2: Cycle to Praia da Rocha

A great track alongside the Rio Arade leads you away from Silves and then up and over the hills to Estombar, before arriving in Ferragudo, a quaint little fishing village which is on the Ecovia do Litoral route (this is a dedicated cycle route that runs along the Algarve coast, linking Cape St Vincent in the west to Vila Real de Santo António).

Following the Ecovia route again takes you over the new bridge into Portimao, and then along the waterfront down to the beautiful seaside resort of Praia da Rocha.

Day 3: Cycle to Lagos

You will be following the Ecovia do Litoral for most of today’s ride, which takes you through the popular coastal resort of Alvor and along the beach towards Lagos, a bustling tourist destination full of wonderful restaurants and entertaining street life.

This is a mostly flat route with plenty of opportunity to stop and soak up the fresh sea air.

Day 4: Cycle to Sagres

This is quite a challenging day’s cycling incorporating a few hills and terrain changes as you approach the rugged cliff-lined coast around Sagres and Cape St Vincent.

The route is all along the Ecovia do Litoral and passes through some dramatic scenery and quaint coastal villages.

Day 5: Rest Day in Sagres

This is an opportunity to relax on some fine beaches, try your hand at surfing or windsurfing or explore the old fortress at Sagres. You may also want to cycle to the southernmost tip of Portugal and Europe at Cape St Vincent.

Day 6: Cycle to Aljezur

This is a good day’s riding heading North up the unspoilt western coastline of Portugal to your overnight stay in Aljezur, an ancient Moorish town situated in a lush green valley and built on either side of a river that runs through the valley.

Day 7: Cycle to Monchique

This is a challenging ride, but well worth it. Monchique is a market town up in the Serra de Monchique, which is a thickly wooded mountain range separating the Algarve from the winelands of the Alentejo.

The journey up to Monchique offers spectacular views and is totally different from coastal Algarve. It is a very quiet and relaxed place, which is ideal for pottering around and appreciating the fantastic views.

Day 8: Departure

We will transfer you from your accommodation for your journey home
