Day-by-Day Cycling Holiday Itinerary

1st day: Individual arrival to Donaueschingen

Visit the source of the Danube before you start your tour along the Neckar.

2nd day: Donaueschingen – Rottweil, approx. 30 km

In Schwenningen you reach the Neckar river, still a small stream here, and follow the course of the river, allowing it to take you to Rottweil, the state‘s oldest town.

3rd day: Rottweil – Sulz/Glatt, approx. 35/45 km

North along the Neckar that cuts a deep valley into the rocks. There are only a few towns along the way to Oberndorf and Sulz.

4th day: Sulz/Glatt – Tübingen, approx. 55/50 km

The narrow Neckar valley ultimately meanders to an end in Rottenburg. After cycling only a few more kilometres you finally reach today‘s destination, the university town of Tübingen.

1st day: Start of the tour Tübingen-Heidelberg: Individual arrival in Tubingen

Tübingen is one of the prettiest cities in the Neckar valley. Visit the Hölderlin tower or the nearby Bebenhausen monastery.

2nd/5th day: Tübingen – Esslingen, approx. 55 km

Downstream through the valley. In Plochingen we recommend visiting the Hundertwasser tower. Esslingen is one of the cities that wasn‘t destroyed during the war, enabling you to enjoy its historic flair.

3rd/6th day: Esslingen – Marbach/Freiberg, approx. 40/45 km

Take a break in Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg‘s capital city. The Neckar valley as home to poets and philosophers is mainly felt in Marbach, where Friedrich Schiller was born.

4th/7th day: Marbach/Freiberg – Heilbronn/Neckarsulm, approx. 45-55 km

Cycling past picturesque vineyards, you follow the bends of the river to Lauffen, where you can allow yourself a little sip of the delicious Katzenbeißer wine. You continue along romantic roads past castles to Neckarsulm.

5th/8th day: Heilbronn/Neckarsulm – Eberbach, approx. 60/55 km

From Neckarsulm, home of the NSU museum with exhibits of historic bicycles and cars, towards the Staufer town of Eberbach which used to be known for its handicraft professions.

6th/9th day: Eberbach – Heidelberg, approx. 40 km

The Neckar winds its way through the Odenwald forest. The university town of Heidelberg awaits you with its famous castle ruin, Baroque buildings in the old part of town and a lively cultural scene.
