Day-by-Day Cycling Holiday Itinerary

1st day: Arrival in Interlaken

The town between Lake Brienz and Lake Thun is a popular starting point for trips to the Aare-ravine and the mountain world of the Berner Oberland.

2nd day: Interlaken – Bern, approx. 35 km

The day begins with a boat trip on Lake Thun, before you cycle on the Bern. Goethe thought Bern was the most beautiful city in Switzerland. The old town is a world heritage site.

3rd day: Bern – Biel, approx. 50 km

Cycling along the Aare River and Lake Wohlen you will come to the bilingual town of Biel/Bienne. The Swiss watch-making industry made the town famous. In the Omega museum you can learn all about the industry.

4th day: Biel – Solothurn, approx. 30 km

Today’s stage is only short so that you have enough time to enjoy the old town or the Lake. Solothurn is also a Canton capital city and is considered the most beautiful baroque city in Switzerland.

5th day: Solothurn – Aarau, approx. 60 km

The Aare river, which by this stage is powerful flow of water, marks the landscape. Villages and meadows line the way to Aarau, which still bears influences form the 16th Century and was once the capital city of the Helvetic Republic.

Day 6: Aarau – Waldshut-Tiengen, approx. 50 km

You cycle along the Aare to Brugg, where you should visit Habsburg Castle. The castle is the seat of the dynasty of the same name which once achieved the position of a true world power. Passing the “water castle” through which about half of the volume of Switzerland’s water flows, you cycle on, via Koblenz, to where the Aare flows into the Rhine. The last section takes you to Waldshut-Tiengen.

Day 7: Waldshut-Tiengen – Schaffhausen, approx. 65 km

You cycle up the Rhine, passing Rheinau Abbey, which is situated idyllically on an island in the river. The closer you get to the Rhine Falls in Schaffhausen the louder the roar of the water gets. Try out one of the boat trips that take you to the rocks of the Falls and experience the roaring mass of water all around you!

8th day: Schaffhausen – Konstanz, approx. 50 km

Today you will cycle to Stein am Rhein with its many fresco-painted houses and from here on along the shores of Lake Constance towards Constance. The old episcopal town was during the Middle Ages the setting for the only council ever to be convened north of the Alps.

9th day: Departure or extension

Your cycling tour comes to an end after breakfast – there are good train conections to ensure you arrive home safely.
