Cycle Route Profile:
Hilly sections with many small inclines, usually on quiet farm roads and side roads, not much of the route is along forest or field paths. A basic level of fitness is recommended.
The approximate difficulty level for this tour
Day 1: Individual arrival in Nuremberg
Nuremberg was once a Free Imperial City and has an impressive history. Visit the Imperial Castle, which was once one of the most important fortresses in Germany. Stroll through the historic Old Town and discover historic buildings, great churches and narrow lanes. Enjoy the culinary highlights in a city with century-long beer, sausage and gingerbread traditions.
Day 2: Nuremberg – Erlangen – Forchheim – Bamberg, approx. 70 / 80 km
We recommend the slightly longer but very beautiful route through Regnitz Valley, where you pedal though charming towns and villages. Alternatively you can take the shorter, more direct route along the Main-Danube canal. In Bamberg it’s difficult to know which of the nine breweries to go for in the town. It’s no wonder that the town has its own patron saint of beer and brewing.
Day 3: Bamberg – Höchstadt – Neustadt an der Aisch, approx. 55 km + train ride (not included) or approx. 70 km
First you cycle a few kilometres back along the path from yesterday. If you want to shorten today’s section, you can take the train to Hirschaid (not included in price). Now follow the valley of the little river Aisch to Neustadt, where a billy goat makes an appearance every hour on the town hall clock.
Day 4: Neustadt – Bad Windsheim – Rothenburg, approx. 60 km
In Bad Windsheim, take a break to visit the Franconian open air museum. Historic buildings have been rebuilt here and in the pub and in several beer gardens you can taste the locally brewed beer. If you still have a little room for a desert in the evening in Rothenburg, (aside from the obligatory beer), you should definitely try a Rothenburg snowball!
Day 5: Rothenburg – Ansbach, approx. 55 km
You start in the Taubertal valley and set off for the nearby Altmühl spring. In Colmberg, the mighty Zollernburg castle towers over the town. From here you follow the Franconian Rezat to Ansbach, a splendid margrave residential town with a beautiful Rococo castle. Let your evening come to a pleasant end in a beer garden!
Day 6: Ansbach – Roth – Nuremberg, approx. 55 km + train ride (not included) or approx. 75 km
You cycle along the German Castles cycle path, passing Wasserburg in Lichtenau and then on to Roth. Visit the margrave castle Ratibor, before you start following the Rhine-Main-Danube canal to Nuremberg. To slightly shorten today’s section, you can take a train to Nuremberg from Roth if you want (not included in price).
Day 7: Individual departure or extension of stay
After breakfast, you start your individual return journey home or extend your stay.
Hilly routes with lots of small climbs. Most of the times you cycle on calm farm routes.
