The tour begins & ends in the historic coastal town of Klaipeda (known as Memel for many years) which boasts a rich, turbulent history from 13thC. Nowadays, it’s a bustling, modern town offering many excellent leisure options ranging from history tours, to water sports.

There’s a wide range of cafes & restaurants & many annual festivals, e.g. jazz, folklore. Guests can choose to spend extra nights here either at the beginning or end of the tour. Guests spend 2 nights in Nida the largest settlement on the Curonian Spit. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing seaside break or explore on foot, by cycle or canoe its unique surroundings; its geology, birdlife, the influence of the Lagoon etc.

We rate this trip easy going to moderate. You will cycle on low traffic roads (some gravel ones), sandy forest trails and high quality cycle paths of the Lithuanian Seaside Cycle Route. The terrain is dead flat most of the tour, except a few sand dunes on the Curonian Spit.

Day-by-Day Cycling Holiday Itinerary


Day 1 Friday: KLAIPĖDA

Individual transfer to the hotel (not included). Check-in at the hotel.
8:00 p.m. (20:00) information meeting at your hotel where you will be greeted by your travel representative, bicycle collection.
OVERNIGHT: Klaipėda
HOTEL: OLD MILL*** or similar

Day 2 Saturday: Along the Seaside Cycle Route / KLAIPĖDA-JUODKRANTĖ-KLAIPĖDA (cycling ~30 km / ~16 miles, by ferry ~20 km / ~13 miles)

9:30 a.m. take a morning ferry to Juodkrantė where you may visit the Hill of Witches which houses a hundred fanciful and folksy wooden sculptures scattered along a forest path, and watch a colony of grey herons and cormorants. Then start cycling along the Lithuanian Seaside Cycle Route to Klaipėda. En route you may stop on golden sand beaches and take the sun or go swimming in the Baltic Sea.
Arrival in Smiltynė where take a ferry back to the Old Town of Klaipėda.

Day 3 Sunday: Along the Seaside Cycle Route to Palanga / KLAIPĖDA-PALANGA-KLAIPĖDA
(cycling ~55 km/~35 miles)

Cycle to Palanga resort along the Lithuanian Seaside Cycle Route leading through Giruliai Forest and the Seaside Regional Park. En route you can explore the Dutchman’s Cap a 24m high coastal cliff and Plazė Lake.
In Palanga visit the Botanical Park and the Amber Museum, cycle along J.Basanavičius pedestrian street with many cafes and restaurants, or explore the 470m pier heading into the Baltic Sea.
Return to Klaipėda using the same or slightly different route.

Day 4 Monday: On Countryside Roads through Pamarys Meadows & woods / KLAIPĖDA-AGLUONĖNAI-PRIEKULĖ-VENTĖ (cycling ~39 km / ~24 miles, by minibus ~35 km / ~22 miles)

Transfer by minibus to the inland where start your cycling ride on picturesque countryside roads through Pamarys meadows as far as Ventė Cape, visit a bird ringing station with a museum of ornithology and the 19th century lighthouse which has a panoramic view of the unique landscape including a glimpse of the glistening Curonian Spit sand dunes.
En route you will cross 24km long Klaipėda Canal, also known as the King Vilhelm Canal, which was dug in the 19th century to link the Minija River with the Curonian Lagoon in Klaipėda. Arrive in Ventė.

Day 5 Tuesday: RUSNĖ Island & NEMUNAS River Delta / VENTĖ-ŠILUTĖ-RUSNĖ ISLAND –NIDA (~41 km/~26 miles)

The day starts with a cycling trip to Lithuania’s only island, Rusnė Island, which is on the border with Russia in the Nemunas River Delta Regional Park. En route explore Šilutė, the town named after “Šilokarčema” (a pub in the pine forest), a traditional fisherman’s smallholding housed in the museum of Rusnė, and, finally, the 19th C lighthouse in Uostadvaris Harbour.
Take a boat to cross the Curonian Lagoon to Nida.

Day 6 Wednesday: NIDA – leisure time by the Baltic Sea (~10 km/~6 miles)

Free day to explore Nida which is a former fishermen’s village on the Curonian Spit washed by the Baltic Sea on one side and the Curonian Lagoon on the other.
Today Nida is the largest settlement of the Neringa region and one of the most beautiful resorts in Lithuania famous for its amber and fine sand beaches.
Cycle or walk along impressive sand dunes, visit the most popular places of interest – the Fisherman’s House, the summer house of famous German writer Thomas Mann, and the Amber Gallery.
Beside sun bathing and swimming in the Baltic Sea, in your trip note there will be many suggestions on how to make the most of your leisure time in this unique place, e.g. go for a relaxed cruise with a traditional sailing boat “Kurenas” or plan a more active canoeing trip to see the Dead Dunes from the lagoon.

HOTEL: NIDOS BANGA*** or NERIJA*** or similar.

Day 7 Thursday: Along sand dunes of the Curonian Spit NIDA-KLAIPĖDA (~55 km/35 mi.)

Cycling on an asphalt bike path of the Seaside Cycle Route which takes you along the Curonian Spit to Klaipėda. En route you can explore the “Dead” sand dunes on foot, swim in the Baltic Sea or relax, take the sun on golden beaches.
Arrival in Smiltynė where you take a ferry to the Old Town of Klaipėda.
7:30 p.m. (19:30) Meeting with your travel representative who will collect the rental cycles.
OVERNIGHT: Klaipėda
HOTEL: OLD MILL*** or similar

Day 8 Friday: KLAIPĖDA

Depart after breakfast.

Regular flights from Copenhagen (DK), Oslo (NO) & Riga (LV). Due to good connecting flights (SAS, AirBaltic) it is easy to reach this airport from many cities in Europe via Copenhagen and Riga.
